3 Super Bowl Participants Should Sign Bobby Wagner

For the first time in his decade-long career, Bobby Wagner is a free agent. The Seahawks’ longtime supporter was drafted by Seattle in 2012 and has been with them ever since. The Seahawks saved $16.6 million by letting him walk but his absence leaves a huge hole in the middle of this defence. But, the Seahawks are in full rebuild mode and need that money. That leaves only one question concerning Wagner: Where will he sign for the season?

At 31, he’s still running strong numbers and has 170 tackles and five saves in 2021. So there’s no shortage of attention for Wagner. With that in mind, here are the three best-suited products for Wagner in the 2022 freelance market.

The Ravens have built a strong defensive brand, and Wagner fits that mold perfectly. While Baltimore is not known for its big free agent signings, it would encourage them to come to Wagner. Wagner could act as a mentor to young midfield talents Patrick Queen and Malik Harrison. They’ve shown lightning in the past but need some mentors in the field to take the next step. In general, the defense had difficulty in finishing and often dropped their pants in the middle of the field. Wagner will help solve those problems and bring Raven back to the head in the AFC North.

I’m adding the Patriots here despite their plans to be young and fast this season. From the very beginning, Matthew Judon contacted his friend via Twitter after the news that Seattle blew up the list. The Patriots lack the ability to stop offenses at the highest level in the league, and Wagner will have a long way to go to remedy that. New England is also losing Dont’a Hightower and Ja’Whaun Bently to free agency and will need to fill those slots somehow. The Patriots have about $11.5 million in the limited space available, so it will take some shuffling around to sign Wagner. But he will be well worth it.

Rounding out the three contenders are the defending Super Bowl champions. The Rams have one of the best defenses in the league, but could use an upgrade on the defensive line. Based on Ian Rapoport, the entire NFC West is interested in signing Wagner. But I think the Rams are the most attractive option as they are set to win right now. Sure. It’s crazy to think that the Rams could somehow get so much better but signing Wagner would fill the only hole they left in defence.
