3 Steelers players will pay with their work this season

With the Pittsburgh Steelers in the midst of an inconsistent campaign, there are a number of boys who won’t be returning to Heinz Field next season.

When everything settles down, Pittsburgh Steelers are outside looking for post-season 2021. There’s still time for Pittsburgh to sneak in, but fans aren’t too optimistic here.

With that said, it’s more than clear that some big changes are needed next season and many won’t be returning to the roster. So who wouldn’t support Mike Tomlin in 2022? Let’s take a look at the three players in this piece.

3. James Washington

A second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma State, Washington arrived in Pittsburgh with some high hopes of making a big impact on the offense. Fans are getting ready to watch him dribble out and catch loads of touches from Ben Roethlisberger.

Instead, things have yet to work out from Washington with the AFC North team. This season has also been a disappointment for Washington, as the 5-foot-11, 215-pound player has staged for 24 receptions for 285 yards and made just two touchdowns.

When JuJu Smith-Schuster had to undergo season-ending surgery, it was hoped that Washington would step up his game and become a serious threat to air attacks. Instead, he was a common man. With him poised to become a free agent this season, it doesn’t look like he has a long-term future with the team.

In the coming months, Pittsburgh will need to revamp its attack and bring in some top talent. Washington is likely to leave town and hope to get his career in another city. Though things may change late, the writing still seems to be on the wall for Washington.
