Who will be dropped from the St. Louis Cardinals roster once the May 1st size reduction?
Due to the MLB lockout and a shortened spring training session, the league allowed teams to increase the size of their rosters to 28. After May 1st it will be reduced to 26 men. Who doesn’t make it to stay with the St. Louis Cardinals?
The Cardinals started the season with 15 pitchers and 13 position players. While the Cardinals place a high value on having a lot of pitching, the cuts will most likely come from the bullpen.
However, a positional player could be removed from the major league roster to get some minor league play to freshen up.
Cardinals: 3 players who are no longer in the roster by May 1st
3. Aaron Brooks, P
Brooks served for the Cardinals for the first time on Sunday after not serving since 2019. He pitched two innings and gave up two hits and two earned runs. He was also able to discard two batters.
Brooks could use some time at the minor league level to work on things. The Cardinals will likely let him use the time to get back into the pitching momentum and move on from there. The team could use the time to stretch him out to pitch more innings.
