The New York Yankees have been slipping a bit lately, and part of that can be attributed to their roster building.
That New York Yankees have the best record in the American League this season, but are 22-25 under .500 in their last 47 games. Much of this can be attributed to their squad-building and some of their players coming back down to earth after exceptional starts to the season.
As always, the club is struggling with many injuries so their depth is very shallow but some of their depth plays should be called upon to reverse their recent fortunes and maybe even help them win the World Series.

3. Call Clarke Schmidt
Clarke Schmidt is a former Top 100 prospect, but he has left prospect status. However, due to injuries, he only has 42.2 innings in the majors.
They recently sent him to Triple-A to stretch him into a starter, which is a good idea. With Jordan Montgomery moving to the Cardinals, their initial pitching depth is still razor thin, even with the addition of Frankie Montas.
Domingo Germán has been better in his last three starts (3.07 ERA) after a terrible first start of the season (3 IP, 5 ER) but he could be a long helper. Whether they have Germán as a long reliever or Schmidt as a long reliever, the Yankees need to have that long reliever in the bullpen, which they don’t currently have.
