The Houston Astros should be everyone’s favorite of the World Series right now.
Just because they started slow this year Houston Astros failed to catch the Los Angeles Dodgers for best record in baseball. There’s still time and if they’ve proven anything this season, it’s that they’re capable of beating anyone.
The Astros have been a World Series contender for a number of years. They have earned a championship in 2017 and losses in 2019 and 2021 in their appearances in the World Series. However, it’s not quite enough. This is a team created to achieve more.
This season’s Astros club has championship aspirations. For these reasons, they should be everyone’s favorite to win the 2022 World Series, even if the Dodgers’ growing IL could put them in second place.
1. Astros have an unbreakable starting rotation
Justin Verlander did it, but he got a lot of help. Framber Valdez, Cristian Javier, Jose Urquidy and Luis Garcia were all fabulous. The most important thing is that they were also healthy. Behind Verlander, 39, they were an impressive young group.
Best of all, they already have a boost in the mix. Lance McCullers Jr. recently returned from the IL to give them a potential six-man rotation. The club have already traded Jake Odorizzi who was decent for them and now have a better pitcher to take his place.
While a six-man rotation for the full 162-game schedule is probably a bad idea, it can be a big help these past few weeks. An extra day of rest can make a big difference. Houston might want to consider narrowing things down at some point. You don’t want the pitchers getting too comfortable in a routine just before the playoffs.
However Dusty Baker plans to manage this rotation, the Astros have guns. Many of them. Also good ones. Quality starting pitching is what can make the biggest difference in the postseason. Without them, your team doesn’t stand a chance.
