The Raiders beat the Jaguars 27-11 in Friday night’s Hall of Fame game. Which 3 long-shot players worked to crack the Raiders’ 53-man roster?

The NFL’s annual teaser, the Hall of Fame gamewhich kicks off the longest five-week stretch of the year for football fans, was played Thursday night in Canton, Ohio.

In the preseason opener, the Las Vegas Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars faced off in a duel between two new head coaches. the first draft pick of 2022and two rosters that have been pretty much completely overhauled for the off-season.

Only so much excitement can really take place in the extra preseason game that gets thrown into the schedule each year that, to sum it up, the Raiders second and third teams defeated the Jaguars reserves 27-11. However, there was enough lightning on the grid to create a case for three Raiders, who faced long chances to create the roster.

Aside from the Raiders blockbuster trade for Davante Adams and the acquisition of Chandler Jonesone of the most interesting notes about the off-season in Vegas was the decision not to pick up Josh Jacobs option in the fifth year. Jacobs has 28 touchdowns and over 3,000 rushing yards in his first three seasons, and it seems like the team is not committed to a future with him. You have a loaded cap to navigate between Derek CarrDavante Adams and Max Crosby Contracts that come back like this need to be an area where they’re willing to test the waters.

With this theory in mind, AustinWalter, who made his NFL debut with the San Francisco 49ers in 2019, made a solid induction push to earn a role in the Raiders’ evolving running back platoon. He had eight carries for 49 yards (6.1 YPC) and one touchdown, which was good for the second-best night among running backs behind rookie Zamir White (11 carries for 52 yards).

Walter was lifted twice by the 49ers (2019, 2021) and the New York Giants (the day after cracking the 53-man roster in October 2019). He’s also had a hiatus in the XFL since the league ceased operations in April 2020. He went back and forth between the active roster and practice team with the New York Jets last year and was signed by the Raiders last week.

His efforts may have been just what he needed to crack a full-time NFL roster for the first time in his career. 3 Raiders players who campaigned for a roster spot in the Hall of Fame game
