Cyberpunk 2077 is in a great position these days considering CD Projekt Red has been officially supported for almost two years and more are on the way. However, in the first few weeks after the game’s release, the modding community dealt with issues big and small: UI, bugs, performance, quality of life, and more. Mods also introduced major gameplay and immersion updates that even the developers have yet to top. Here are just eleven of the best mods you can install right now to make your time in Night City even better.
The best Cyberpunk 2077 mods on PC
There’s no way to properly list all the awesome mods that are coming out daily for Cyberpunk 2077, but the eleven featured here are proven or so good that their young age doesn’t matter.
Required for most mods: Cyber Engine Tweaks and more
One of the only problems with modding cyberpunk is that in order for some of the best mods to work, you need specific modding resources and script extenders. The most important of them is also one of the oldest: Cyber Engine Tweaks is a framework for modifying the game that provides some base-level fixes. Most mods for Cyberpunk require at least Cyber Engine Tweaks, but there are others you might need including Redscript, Native Settings UI, RED4ext, ArchiveXL, TweakXL, and Input Loader.
Always equip first
The animations for equipping weapons in Cyberpunk are quite satisfying, but they only play once without modifying the game. The Always First Equip mod gives a percentage chance that every time you draw a weapon you will see its equipment animation again. You are also not immediately prevented from using the weapon. So if you switch mid-fight and the animation is playing, you can shoot right away.
Better loot markers
Looting enemies is one of the best ways to make money and find better weapons in Cyberpunk 2077, but the UI for doing so has always been a bit lackluster. Better Loot Markers go a long way in fixing this problem by showing you what an enemy is carrying or what type of weapon is now lying on the ground near their corpse. You still have to walk up to a fallen enemy and loot the body for detail, but you can tell at a glance what you’re picking up from a distance.
shaping quality of life
The crafting system in Cyberpunk is a little clunky, and quite a bit more expensive and tricky the further down the crafting perk tree you go. While crafting Quality of Life doesn’t overhaul the systems, it does make it easier to upgrade iconic items – unique gear with special abilities and effects – to a higher rarity and weapon tier without having to use nearly as many materials. It also makes crafting weapon and armor mods a bit more dynamic and adds a few bug fixes for good measure.
E3 2018 HUD – Sharp HUDs
The HUD in Cyberpunk 2077 is perfectly functional, but like most things in the game, it was at least a little bit better in the 2018 demo that got everyone excited about the game. The mod creator for the E3 2018 HUD mod claims to have built the experience from the ground up and it’s hard to argue with their hard work.
Immersive first person perspective
If you looked at your feet in the vanilla version of Cyberpunk, you would see… nothing. V is a floating camera that can spawn arms to hold its weapon. The Immersive First Person fixes this oversight, giving your character first-person sculpted legs, chest, arms — all that stuff, based on the gear you currently have equipped.
Judy/Panam/Kerry/River Romance Enhanced
We’re cheating a bit here as there are technically four mods, but they all serve the same purpose: to improve the post-questline relationship you can have with Panam, Judy, Kerry, and River. By default, in Vanilla Cyberpunk, once you’ve completed the romance quest line for these NPCs, they become generic characters that do the same things as every other guy on the street. Panam Romance Enhanced, Judy Romance Enhanced, River Romance Enhanced, and Kerry Interactions Enhanced all add character-specific interactions after you complete their quests.
garbage in the trunk
Ever wanted a little more convenience when accessing your gear stash or the newly implemented wardrobe transmog system? Junk in the Trunk lets you open both from the trunk of any of your vehicles, so you don’t have to return to an apartment to stash your loot or change your appearance. Not the most engaging mod, but by far one of the most convenient.
LOD (Distant Level of Detail) improvements
The visual upgrade mods available for Cyberpunk are nearly endless, with modders assembling systems to enhance the look of Night City in various ways. The LOD Enhancement Mod is one of the best of the bunch, increasing the level of detail or LOD of your game, reducing pop-in and far-off low-poly assets. You’ll need a beefy PC for the most demanding version of this mod, but the visual upgrade is worth the performance hit.
That a metropolitan city as big as Night City lacks a subway system is something of a crime, but thankfully the Metro System mod goes beyond that, adding 19 lore-friendly purpose-built subway stations and over -to provide the street rail lines that will get you from A to B quickly and smoothly. There are no loading screens to get from the road to the station and into the train carriage, and if you pick the right time of day driving around you’ll really appreciate just how beautiful Cyberpunk 2077 can be.
Revision of the telephone messages
There are thousands of individual phone messages in Cyberpunk 2077, but after a certain point in your relationship with the core roster of NPCs, they almost entirely dry up. The Phone Messages overhaul adds many additional conversations with NPCs, major and minor, adding another level of immersion to your time taking you to the top of Night City’s mercenary pack.
Optimizations for vehicle summons
Summoning your vehicle works well in most cases, but even after the 1.6 Edgerunners update, your car or bike can easily get stuck in traffic or otherwise interfere with NPC car systems. The Vehicle Summon Tweaks mod gives you control over how close and how fast you can summon your vehicle, and even allows you to dismiss your car if you wish, freeing up the lane for other cars.
