#10 Northern Colorado Women’s Tire in the WBCA Academic Top 25

Another University of Northern Colorado sports team received academic honors this week.

The UNC women’s basketball team was part of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association 2021-22 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll. It was No. 10 in Division I.

Teams must achieve a 3.0 grade point average for the academic year. The Bears had a combined GPA of 3.66 last year.

This is the ninth time UNC has earned a spot on the list and the first time under head coach Kristen Mattio. It is divided for the second highest rank. The last time UNC was recognized was 2017-18. The best season was 2013/14 when the team was number 3.

The Bears were the only Big Sky team on the top 25 list. South Dakota State led the Division I teams with a 3.80 GPA.

UNC will begin its second season under Mattio this fall. It has a handful of returning players, including Hannah Simental, who was an All-Big Sky selection on the court and in the classroom.
